National Education Society (NES)

During the Freedom struggle, Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of our Nation stressed the need for quality rural education and development of women education and urged the leaders and youth to help in promoting it. Senior Freedom fighters and public of Shimoga were first to respond to the call of Mahatma. In 1946 they set up the National education society at Shimoga which is the important place of Malnad Area of Western Ghat Region in the Country which is endowed with rich and enchanting grace of Nature.The Society with the zeal dedication of senior leaders of the district like Mr. S.V.Krishna Murthy Rao, former deputy speaker of Loksabha, Mr.H.S.Rudrappa, Former Minister of Karnataka. Mr.P.Murudappa, Mr.R.K.Jayatheerthachar and Mr.S.Narasimha Murthy senior Advoc ates, Mr.S.R.Nagappa Shrestty, Ex - MLA and a great social worker and others strived hard to build the institution as founders to achieve the aspirations of Mahatma. The society started independently Managed High School in the district during 1946 and constructed its own building with public assistance. With a view to give thrust towards girl’s education NES opened the first Girl’s High School in the district in 1954 and gradually opened educational institutions in rural areas of the district to cater the needs of rural people.

JNNCE

The history of JNN College of Engineering is marked by events that have made it synonymous with quality education. Established in 1980 by NES, the College is affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi and is recognized by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and Government of Karnataka. Accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA), NAAC 'B', Institution of Engineers (India) and Certified by UGC 2f & 12B. JNNCE is ranked among the top 80 private technical institutions of India and 17 among institutions of Karnataka by OUTLOOK. India Today ranked institute among top 48 institutes of India and 10 in Karnataka. The Week has placed JNNCE in 50th position in India, and 13th in Karnataka. Set in a lush green environment of over fifty acres the college has every infrastructural facility that more than adequately, meets the requirements of around 3800 students and 400 staff members. Infrastructure of JNNCE is being continuously developed. A huge, spacious and elegant New Library and Information Centre building with Digital Library is completed recently. Construction of both first phase and second phase of new Girls’ Hostel building is completed. It is interesting to note that more than 17,000 graduates in various disciplines - Civil, Mechanical, Electrical & Electronics, Electronics & Communication, Computer Science, Information Science, Telecommunication Engineering and post graduation programmes of M.Tech, M.C.A., M.B.A., Ph.D and M.Sc (Engg.) by research in various disciplines have shown their professional acumen and are respected in industry, R&D, Government organizations & academic institutions in India and across the world.
